Unprepared, untrained 'but' willing to have-a-go. That was the Calverton Working
Men's Football team on the Tuesday evening of 16th September 2003.
Cherry Tree team

The Cherry Tree were the faster and stronger team and more youthful overall, bearing in mind that the Working Men's team included the cabaret Double act of Colin Pitchford and Dave Henson.

The game was hard fought to the very end, Steve Corbett lobbed the Cherry Goalie Martin Davies from thirty yards for a wonder goal.

Yet the Cherry came out on top, in the end, winning by four goals to three.

Match report by Mick Truman
The Top Club Steward, Gerry Nelson, came to watch and along with everyone else, players and supporters, they agreed that the 'Man of the Match' was the Calverton Working Men's goalkeeper Philip Brothers.

He showed skill, bravery and, as is his custom, never stopped smiling throughout the whole of this extraordinary game.
