Some facts from Edwin Varney

The club was formed in 1946 by Arthur 'Jocky' Matthews  who lived on North Green and he was assisted by
Bill Hatfield the father of one of the players in the photograph. At the time the photograph was taken they were members of the Nottingham Realm League (now defunct) and finished the season Division 1 Runners Up and League Senior Cup Runners Up. The following season 1953-54 they joined the Nottingham & District League (Now defunct) and again finished the season Division 1 Runners Up. The players mementoes for the honours won in both these seasons I have in my possession kindly given to me many years ago by Roy Truman who has greatly assisted me in my research for that period. I didn't know of the existence of the 1953 photograph so it came as a very great surprise to learn that Bob Kinton, Ron Farmer, Chris Lawson would also play for me in the early sixties when I was secretary. I started at the Colliery in 1956 until 1985 and a number of the team of 1953 I knew personally and my best friend at the time was Bob Kinton the Goalkeeper who met a tragic end dying from a knife attack whilst visiting his son in South Africa
